Sometimes we all need a little help getting some rest.
I know that I go through periods of time where sleep is very difficult. If I’m in a flare, or I just have too much on my mind, it can be rough to get good rest. And that sets me up for a bad day and the cycle continues. I’ve written several posts on sleep – it’s that important for us.

So what’s a spoonie to do?
I’ve found relief using essential oils to relax and quiet down my mind, as well as to soothe my muscles and joints.
This simple salve recipe is perfect for a night time foot massage and works well for the littles in your life as well. I decided to use apricot seed oil in this batch, you can easily substitute any natural oil. Apricot seed oil contains high fatty acids, Vitamin E and A which can be used to moisturize and nourish skin, especially dry skin. And since I use this for foot massage, it leave the tootsies soft.
Out Like a Light Sleepy Salve
¼ cup coconut oil
¼ cup apricot seed oil
1-2 Tbsp beeswax (I used 1.5 T)
½ tsp arrowroot powder or cornstarch to cut greasiness
8 drops Cedarwood essential oil
8 drops Bergamot essential oil
5 drops Roman Chamomile essential oil
10 drops Lavender essential oil
1.In a double boiler, combine the coconut, apricot, and beewax place over med high heat until the beewax melts.
2.Remove from heat and whisk in the arrowroot or corn starch.
3.Add essential oils and pour into tins or containers.
We filled 2 altoid style tins this time. We also use the small tins you can get in the wedding favor department of the craft store.
And that’s it!! It sets up very quickly and lasts a long time. You can adjust the strength of the salve if you need something a little stronger or weaker, but this seems to be a good amount for most people.
It makes a great gift too (who doesn’t love sleep? Well other than some toddlers I know!) We did a batch for teacher appreciation gifts, which were very well received!
