Taking a detox bath is a simple way to both pamper yourself AND help our body eliminate the toxins it accumulates.
Even if you live a relatively clean life, we are still exposed to crap all the time. But it’s incredibly easy put a few things together for an amazing detox bath. Plus the benefits are more than you might think: softer skin, improved muscle and nerve function, stress relief, and soothing discomfort and other symptoms related to chronic illness.
There are many different recipes you can try, and you can be creative with salts and scents to make something that pampers your moods & emotions too.
What should I add to my detox bath?
Magnesium: Epsom salt orMagnesium Flakes are great sources of Magnesium. We need it in our bodies for nerve and muscle function. Most of us need more magnesium and this is a great way to get it. I talked a bit more about magnesium HERE
Baking soda softens the bath water and makes it more alkaline.
Bentonite clay is sourced from natural volcanic ash sediments and is deeply cleansing for your skin. When added to the bath, bentonite clay is highly absorbent, expanding and drawing in other substances like a sponge. When used as part of a detox bath, it will draw out toxins from your skin and leave your skin feeling super soft.
Hawaiian black lava sea salt is infused with activated charcoal and is used to help the body remove impurities. Activated charcoal detoxifies the skin by attracting and trapping toxins in its millions of tiny pores. It also draws impurities and excess sebum out of the body, providing balance for those who suffer from extremely oily or problematic skin. (1)
Himalayan sea salt can soothe various skin conditions and add extra minerals (over 80!) to your bath water.
Essential Oils support many body functions. Peppermint supports the lymphatic system. Grapefruit helps you sweat out the crud but is also uplifting, Ginger supports the circulatory and digestive systems (We picked the Slim&Sassy blend for this bath because it contains grapefruit, lemon, peppermint, ginger and cinnamon essential oils – perfect for this bath)
We also added Lemongrass as it works amazing to support drainage in the body.Plus the combined aroma is amazing.
Detox Bath Recipe
1 cup Epsom salts
1/2 cup Baking Soda
1 T Bentonite clay*
1/4 cup Himalayan Sea Salts*
1/4 cup Hawaiian Black Lava Salt*
10 drops doTERRA Slim & Sassy metabolic blend
10 drops doTERRA Lemongrass essential oil
Add to a bath as hot as you can handle Your water will be a gray color. Not as pretty as a bath bomb, but it’s worth it! Have some water to sip on. You’ll get thirsty! And don’t do this if you’re already feeling a tad dehydrated – fact be extra hydrated before hand and drink plenty of water later too. Soak for 20-30 minutes. Rinse off with fresh water and rinse the tub too. I just do that with the shower as I’m rinsing. It’s doesn’t need scrubbing if you do it right away.
I’d recommend you only use this no more than once a week. If you’re pregnant, have blood pressure problems or other medical conditions that makes bathing unsafe, you should most definitely consult with your health care provider before taking therapeutic baths.
