No2 PooPourri Spray DIY
Ever had to GO but prefer that the rest of the house isn’t made aware of it by the odor wafting from the bathroom? Poo-Pourri to the rescue….
Often people grab a commercial air freshener to spray to mask the unpleasant aroma, but they often contain harmful chemicals that can cause serious health problems over time. And if you’re a spoonie – well, you have quite enough to deal with already, right? Besides most air freshening sprays just try to cover up the smell instead of actually getting rid of it.
So what to do??
Essential oils on the other hand, eliminate bad odors and replace them with pleasant ones. They help deal with bacteria, germs and fungi that come with bad smells. Thus they purify the air too.
You may have seen the hilarious commercials for poo-pourri, but did you know its super easy to make your own. And a heck of a lot cheaper too. It works by trapping the smell underneath the water. You just spray the toilet BEFORE you use it and the eau d’poo is trapped under the water’s surface.
What do you need?
A 4 oz spray bottle (glass, aluminum, or good quality plastic)
2 Tablespoons Witch hazel* or rubbing alcohol
1 Tablespoon Vegetable glycerin*
20-30 drops Essential oil
Combine essential oils, witch hazel, and glycerin in spray bottle. Shake well. Fill with distilled water, and shake again.
Add label with instructions and you’re ready to go
Instructions could say something like: “No2 PooPouri. Shake & spray 3-4 times into toilet bowl before you go”
What oils to use?
That’s up to your preferences, but spicy -woodsy smells tend to hang around longer. Citrus aromas are bright and clean. Here are some of my suggestions:
Wild Orange, Cassia, Clove
Lemon & Lavender
Spearmint & Peppermint
Lemongrass, Grapefruit, and Tangerine
Feel free to experiment and let us know what combos you like best in the comments. I love to try new oil combinations!
