Most of us have heard about the harsh and potentially dangerous ingredients in antiperspirants.
But it can be a real hassle to find a deodorant that is effective enough, especially if you deal with excessive perspiration. My youngest has an issue called hypohydrosis, which essentially means she sweats A LOT. And as a teen girl, she suffers from anxiety and stress about it which just exacerbates the situation.
So when I read that Litsea essential oil can help balance excessive perspiration and even keep bacterial growth (that leads to unpleasant body odor) in check we were both quite pleased to say the least.
Litsea (normally not an oil available from doTERRA in the US Market but a promo for August 2018) is good for a great deal more than that (I love learning about the versatility of essential oils). It is also good for:
- Respiratory Support – diffuse it with a citrus oil, peppermint, or even doTERRA’s Breathe blend
- Stress/Anxious feelings – the aroma helps encourage relaxation and a feeling of peace
- Occasional Breakouts – dab a little Litsea on problem spots
- Digestive Support – applied topically to the tummy it can soothe occasional upsets
But we are here to talk SWEAT right?
We created a DIY Deodorant Lotion with Litsea and Balance and oh does it smell divine. Seems to be helping, though I imagine we’ll see a bigger difference with long term, consistent use. We put ours in a jar. If you’d like to use a deodorant tube, increase the beeswax to at least 2T.
DIY Litsea Deodorant Creme
1-1/2 T Beeswax pellets
4 T Coconut Oil (regular not fractionated)
1T Mango Butter (shea butter would work too, but I don’t like the way it smells. We bought this from “our local Amazon”)
4t Bentonite Clay (also odor & moisture absorbing0
15 drops Litsea Essential Oil
10 drops Balance ground blend
Combine Beeswax, Coconut Oil, Mango Butter in double boiler on med-high heat. Stir occasionally until beeswax is melted. Remove from heat and whisk in the clay. Once mixture has cooled slightly, stir in essential oils and pour into container. We used a 4oz jar and had plenty of room.
Use once or twice a day.
Yes, you can substitute something else for Balance. Follow your nose 😉
If you are working to eliminate toxic products from your home, antiperspirant should be towards the top of the list. All the harsh things we expose our self to has a negative effect on our overall health, and this is ESPECIALLY important for those of us with chronic health issues. If you need help coming up with a sensible plan for detoxing your lifestyle, let me know. I’m happy to help.
Huh! That’s so cool! The only issue I may have is I’ve used beeswax and Shea butter, etc and I find I end up throwing out more than I use – is there a way to preserve it so it lasts? Would love to try this out!
I bought mango butter from amazon. It came in a jar, so it keeps a long time easily. I keep my beeswax in a ziplock and haven’t had trouble with it lasting a long time. I would just buy the smallest quantities available if you worry about it though.
